Sami-Sabinsa Japan Pays Tribute to Dr. Muhammed Majeed
Our team in Japan came together at Ikebukuro in Tokyo to organize “Memorial Day” for its Founder and Nutra industry luminary, Dr. Muhammed Majeed. Along with our Japanese customers and former associates of Sabinsa, our team paid floral tributes to the visionary and recalled their long associations with Dr. Majeed and the company.
Dr. Majeed’s vision to emulate his success of standardized plant extracts globally made Sabinsa set foot in Japan in early 2000, when no other company explored this territory with the concept of Ayurveda. With over 75 ingredients focused on health support and beauty, Sabinsa is now a preferred innovation and formulation partner for many reputed brands in this tough-to-crack Japanese market. Thanks to Dr. Majeed’s remarkable business foresight.
Dr. Majeed’s commitment to societal welfare made him establish the Dr. Majeed Foundation, which focused on healthcare, education, and other socioeconomic development activities.
Remembering the legend and his legacy, a video documentary on Dr. Majeed was played to the guests at the event.
Characterized by a blend of leadership qualities, innovative thinking, and empathy, Dr. Majeed passed away last month at the age of 75 in Chennai, India.
Dr. Majeed is succeeded as Chairperson of the Sami-Sabinsa Group by his daughter, Dr. Anju Majeed, Director and senior scientist. His only son, Shaheen Majeed, returns as the Global Managing Director & CEO. He is survived by his daughters Anju and Sami, his son Shaheen, and his grandchildren Rizwan, Johara, Nasneen, Ramses, Sunayna, Rajah, and Maximo.

Sami-Sabinsa Group’s Facility Recognized with FAMI-QS for Implementing and Maintaining the Feed Safety and Quality Management System
Sami-Sabinsa Group, the parent company of Sabinsa, is proud to share that our facility in Kunigal, Karnataka, has secured FAMI-QS certification. FAMI-QS is a world-renowned quality and safety certification recognizing facilities that supply feed products for implementing and maintaining Feed Safety and Quality Management System. Sami-Sabinsa’s Kunigal facility in Karnataka also caters to a range of animal feed products for different global markets.
In addition to its comprehensive portfolio of products for human wellbeing, Sami-Sabinsa Group is diversifying its science-based ingredients to the animal feed industry with the objective of producing feeds that deliver better animal performance and health.
Accepting the certification, Dr. Anju Majeed, Director of Sami-Sabinsa Group, stated, “The certification reflects our commitment to adhere to the highest standards of quality and safety in our ingredients for the animal feed industry while also catering to our customers’ distinctive needs and preferences.”

Nutraceuticals Europe – Summit & Expo

At Nutraceuticals Europe – Summit & Expo, Sabinsa Europe presented its breakthrough products, including Cirpusins®, Nigellin®, Shagandha®, and Starmeric®. Nutraceuticals 2022 is a major showcase for the industry with 107 companies from 14 plus countries exhibiting their products in functional ingredients, end products and novel foods space.
Our team had tons of conversations about our innovative products with the industry insiders. At the event, Dr. Umar Jan, President European Operations, Sabinsa, made a presentation on Curcumin C3 Reduct®, the only EFSA-approved pharmacologically active Curcumin metabolite.
World Environment Day
World Environment Day is a UN Environment-led global event, which takes place on June 5th every year and is celebrated by several countries worldwide. Sami-Sabinsa Group also celebrated this event.
Mr. Madhu Subramanian, Executive Director of Sami-Sabinsa Group planted a tree in our manufacturing facility in India and kept the ground stone. He also addressed the group about the importance of the event and protecting Mother Earth for future generations to enjoy. Mr. Subramanian stated “It is a privilege and not a right for us human beings to be on this earth and we must protect it for the future also”.

Commemorating 70th Anniversary of India-Japan Diplomatic Relations (Science Week)

Ayurveda was one of the key topic of forum discussions and presentation. The Science Week is from April 25 – 28, 2022 and Sabinsa Japan Corporation had its display and seminar on April 16, 2022.
Sabinsa’s technical staff, Mr. Yoshiaki Adachi, gave a 30 minute presentation on our Ayurvedic Products. Also presented technical books to the Indian Ambassador in Japan for Embassy library. The books were also on display along with other product line information.
Sami-Sabinsa enlightens on ‘Nutraceuticals for Weight Management & Quality and Safety Challenges’ at the International Congress
The 9th International Congress of the Society for Ethnopharmacology was organized by the Society for Ethnopharmacology, India at Mysuru in April 2022. At the conference, Dr. Anjali Pandey, Senior Scientist, Sami-Sabinsa (Bengaluru) gave a comprehensive presentation on “Nutraceutical approach for effective weight management and wellness” and Dr. Satish Sawant, Vice President – Analytical R&D, Sami-Sabinsa laid out the quality and safety challenges to be complied by herbal ingredient manufacturers in his presentation. Product information on Sami-Sabinsa’s range of innovative ingredients was also put on display at the expo that was part of the symposium.
Sami-Sabinsa signs MoU at Global Ayush Investment & Innovation Summit 2022
Through the J&K Medicinal Plants Board, Sami-Sabinsa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with farmers in Jammu and Kashmir at the ‘Buyer Seller Meet’. This meet was part of the Global Ayush Investment & Innovation Summit 2022 that happened at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The pact will ensure the sustainability of the endangered medicinal plant Picrorhiza kurroa (commonly known as ‘Kutki’) in the region, and Sami-Sabinsa will use this perennial woody herb for the production of standardized extracts that treat liver and bronchial disorders.

In the US, SupplySide West show is the most important industry tradeshow for us as a leading supplier of high quality, scientifically substantiated ingredients as this event has the largest gathering of health & nutrition professionals looking for new, innovative, clinically studied products for their new product development projects and for introducing formulations with new ingredients. It is a meeting place for Science and Strategy. As usual, this event helped us to showcase and demonstrate first hand – our new products and innovations to potential and existing customers. This year, there was extra energy and vitality on the floor and enthusiasm was soaring, since it was one of the first major in-person events. We had a busy show with great customer interactions on our ingredients which we are sure will help us with additional sales opportunities in the coming weeks and months. Our new book on Ashwagandha – ‘The Antiaging and Neuroprotective Adaptogen’ authored by Dr. Majeed and our scientists was the star of our booth. It was welcomed and deeply appreciated by many of customers and they were happy to get a copy of the educational book. Sabinsa Participates in Hi Japan – Japan’s Largest Trade Show for Functional and Health Ingredients
Hi (Health Ingredients) Japan is the leading industry event across Asia for sourcing health ingredients, functional ingredients, supplements and nutraceutical ingredients. Japan is the world’s largest functional food and supplements market, with more than 60% of the population using some form of supplements.
This event which was hosted in Tokyo from November 16 – 18 2020, has been inspiring industry innovations and driving the health ingredients industry forward over the past 31 years and has become the must-attend event for industry professionals looking to make an impact on Japan’s thriving health food market and functional ingredients industry. Ground Breaking Ceremony for Phase 3 of Upcoming Nutraceuticals Manufacturing Facility in Hassan, Karnataka
Sami-Sabinsa Group Limited, a pioneer and global leader in health sciences hosted a ground-breaking ceremony on July 3rd, 2020 to commence work on the third phase of its nutraceutical manufacturing unit coming up at Hassan, Karnataka. The third phase covering 645,000 square feet of this world-class Active Nutraceutical Ingredient (ANI) manufacturing unit will have a production capacity of 900 tons per annum. The high quality, environmentally conscious, Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility will combine user comfort, energy efficiency, responsible water management, and biodiversity development. The facility, which will be 100% cGMP and compliant with regulatory requirements is scheduled for commissioning by 2021 and is expected to generate employment for approximately 400 people in and around Hassan. The construction work for the first and second phase of the ANI facility, for which the ground breaking ceremony was conducted in January 2020 is progressing rapidly. The total planned investment for the Hassan facility is Rs 200 Crore.
This is Sami-Sabinsa Group’s 8th global manufacturing facility, in addition to its units located in Karnataka, Hyderabad and USA. The ground-breaking ceremony was hosted by Dr. Muhammed Majeed, Founder and Chairman, Sami-Sabinsa Group Ltd, Mr. Shaheen Majeed, President Worldwide, Sabinsa and Director, Sami Labs Ltd, Dr. Anju Majeed, Director and Sr. Scientist, Sami Labs Ltd and members of the Sami-Sabinsa Group management and staff. The ANI facility is part of Sami-Sabinsa Group’s strategy to expand existing ingredient growth and focus on new innovative products. The new plant will significantly expand the Group’s overall manufacturing capacity, and also strengthen our presence as India’s premier and largest global nutraceutical company. This is a testament to the Sami-Sabinsa team’s commitment to developing products that make lives healthier and better.
International Conference on Translational Cancer Research
Dr. Sarang Bani, Senior Advisor, Biological R&D, Sami Labs Limited delivered a lecture about ‘Curcuminoids – Nature’s Answer to Cancer’ at the 8th International Conference on Translational Cancer Research held at Varanasi from February 13-16, 2020. The conference was organized by the Department of Biochemistry, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University under the auspices of Society for Translational Cancer Research (STCR). The theme of the conference which was ‘Inflammation and Immune System for Cancer Prevention and Treatment’ was well attended by academicians, scientists, clinicians, industrialists, and students from all across the globe, who came together to discuss current knowledge on inflammation and immune system to combat cancer.

ANFD is a closed vessel designed to separate solid and liquid by filtration under pressure or vacuum to ensure odorless, contamination free and nonpolluting working conditions maintaining product purity and hygiene. As per the regulatory norms, ANFD is highly recommended to minimize the external contamination.
